Run a 30-day oral microbiome experiment.

Opal Biome helps you test one oral-care variable at a time: an oral probiotic, a mouthwash routine, xylitol, tongue scraping, retainer cleaning, or another clean oral-care habit.

This founding beta includes two oral microbiome samples: one baseline sample and one follow-up sample after about 30 days. Your report compares what changed, what stayed stable, and what is too noisy to overinterpret.

Before you buy: review the public sample report to see the level of detail, caveats, tables, and interpretation style you should expect.

Choose your beta track after checkout

  • Oral Probiotic Tracker: for people testing oral probiotics such as BioGaia, BLIS K12/M18, xylitol, or a probiotic oral-care stack.
  • Mouthwash / Nitrate Explorer: for people curious about oral bacteria discussed in nitrate-reduction literature and how their profile changes after a mouthwash routine experiment.

What you get

  • Two-sample experiment kit: baseline + follow-up.
  • Simple collection instructions and kit registration.
  • Short oral-care questionnaire so your report has context.
  • Long-read 16S oral microbiome sequencing.
  • A manually reviewed before/after report.
  • Top genera and species, diversity, and major shifts.
  • Track-specific interpretation for probiotics or mouthwash/nitrate.
  • Raw taxonomy summary export.
  • One suggested next experiment.

What your result looks like

Your report is built around change over time. It does not label your mouth as healthy or unhealthy. It shows detected taxa, relative abundance patterns, and before/after shifts. For example, if one sample shows Streptococcus at 56% and a follow-up shows 44%, the report explains the observed change, whether it is large enough to notice, and why retesting under a controlled routine matters.

Report preview

A founding beta report includes an executive summary, sample quality snapshot, top detected genera/species, diversity and dominance scores, before/after change tables, track-specific notes, interpretation limits, references, and one suggested next experiment. It is written to be useful for a self-experiment without pretending to be a dental diagnosis.

Important boundaries

  • This is educational and non-diagnostic.
  • It does not diagnose gum disease, cavities, infection, bad breath, or any medical/dental condition.
  • It is not a replacement for a dentist, physician, hygienist, or prescribed care.
  • It does not measure nitric oxide, blood pressure, volatile sulfur compounds, inflammation, plaque depth, or tooth decay.
  • It cannot prove that a probiotic colonized, that bacteria were alive, or that a specific strain was present.
  • Do not start, stop, or change prescribed treatment based on this report.

Founding beta terms

  • U.S. only.
  • Adults 18+ only.
  • Not available in New York during beta.
  • Limited to the first 50 founding customers.
  • Beta customers may be asked for product feedback and an optional interview.

Best fit: people who like structured self-experiments and want to see what changes after one oral-care variable, not people looking for diagnosis or treatment advice.
